East Gig Harbor Water District
Spring 2026 Newsletter

We've had a mild winter but that makes no difference as we all welcome spring with its blooms, and eventually more sunshine. It was a good winter too, in terms of minimal damage, no frozen pipes and no reports of leaks caused by inclement weather.

News of Note as we move well into 2026.

• The board reluctantly accepted the resignation of Joanie Brodie as commissioner. She has ongoing family obligations - the joy of being a grandparent!

• Thus Kathy Polo has joined the board and is getting acquainted with the various duties, primarily keeping an eye on our financial stability. On that note, the District is in great shape, with considerable assets in two local banks.

• I know you're all familiar with District plans to replace a section of main along Goodman Drive. This means that before work starts you'll see contractors in evidence, assessing in order to make bids on the project, and you may already have seen markings on the street that mean something to those contractors.

• Our system engineer, Joe Dominczyk, is putting final touches on the Water System Plan as required by the state health department. When this is done and commissioners have made a second review of the plan, it will be sent to adjacent water systems for comment before i t's filed with the state.

• One result of this Water System Plan will be a more definitive number of how many Water Availability Certificates might be available for sale. The state mandates how much water any given district or system can draw from an aqueduct and this dictates how many Certificates can be sold.

• Thus, at the current time, the board has set a moratorium on the sale of "Water Letters" until we get clarification on how few we might still have available. We know that number will be small, meaning that much of our side of the harbor will remain forested and green. Additionally, the cost of Water Letters is likely to increase, although that decision isn't final and a new price has not yet been determined.

• The District appreciates the information assist from the East Gig Harbor Neighborhood Association on its website. If you haven't joined, or haven't attended a meeting, it's a great way to meet new neighbors and find out what's really going on. In closing, the board reminds all neighbors that you are welcome to attend board meetings, which are typically the third Thursday of each month, 10 am, a t the Chamber of Commerce on Judson St in Gig Harbor. It's best t o check with one of the commissioners first about attending since we sometimes adjust meeting dates to accommodate individual schedules.
In closing, feel free to contact any of us with questions or observations about our healthy water supply. Visitors tell their hosts how good this water tastes!
